R. Stanley Clark, 103, a resident of North Little Rock, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Lakewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Little Rock.
Born March 23, 1906, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was a son of Robert Thornton and Onie Lee Smith Clark.
Mr. Clark was reared and received his early education in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1936. Robert Stanley Clark married Laura Culpepper on September 13, 1947, in North Little Rock. Mrs. Clark preceded him in death on February 4, 2007.
Mr. Clark opened The Coffee Cup, at Fifth and Main streets in 1936. He ran the restaurant for forty years. He also operated the Hob Nob, Clark's Seafood Grill, the Ranch House, and others over the years.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Quapaw Lodge #730, the Sahara Shrine Temple, the Woodcarvers of America, and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He entertained as a musician, a ventriloquist, a magician, and was an amateur artist.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and Narcissus Hickory Head, (his ventriloquism dummy).
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, November 11, 2009, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Ann Ballard Bryan, Laura Ballard Trigg, and Clark Ballard officiating.
Burial will be private.
